Pastors' Statehouse Day

Thursday, Feb 23, 2012 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Location: Indiana Statehouse

We invite you to participate in Pastors’ Statehouse Day at the Indiana Statehouse on Thursday, February 23, 2012 to meet your legislators and enjoy lunch with them. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your congregation to develop relationships with your elected officials, and, as Rep. Wesco stated, “to bring prayer and biblical encouragement to them.”

I urge you to join us for this special occasion! Here are a few highlights of the day. You will have the opportunity to

· Hear from Treasurer Richard Mourdock, Sen. Dennis Kruse, Rep. Peggy Welch and others in the morning.

· Learn why we need the Gospel proclaimed in the political arena. (Acts 9:15, Acts 13)

· Discover tools to pray more effectively for our leaders. (I Timothy 2:1-4)

· Eat lunch in the Indiana Statehouse Rotunda with your legislators.

There is absolutely no charge to participate, and we encourage you to invite your fellow pastors! All we ask is that you contact your legislators to establish a meeting with them in the South Atrium on February 23, 2012 from 12 noon – 1 p.m. (Numbers: House: 800-382-9842; Senate: 800-382-9467.) Should you need assistance in determining who your legislators are, please contact us at indiana@capitolcom.org.

We would greatly appreciate your involvement with us as we seek to minister to the spiritual needs of our state’s leaders. If you plan to attend, please click above link to register by February 10, 2012.

Thank you for considering this unique opportunity to invest in those serving us in Indiana’s capitol! Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at indiana@capitolcom.org. We would appreciate hearing from you and sharing with you our vision for this ministry.

Sincerely,

Rev. Matthew Barnes

Dear Pastor,

I extend my gratitude to you and your church for your faithfulness in ministering to the needs of your community and the state of Indiana at large. As one who serves in Indiana’s legislative body, I recognize the significance of your sacrificial labors to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and fulfill practical works of necessity and mercy in your ministry arena. Your deeds do not go unnoticed, and in days such as these, the influence of the Word of God and His people is needed more than ever – especially in the political arena!

That is why I am greatly appreciative of a particular ministry at the Indiana Statehouse. Capitol Commission (www.capitolcom.org) is a mission organization focused on reaching the capitol community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Rev. Matthew Barnes serves as the Indiana State Director and leads a fruitful ministry in our midst through his weekly Bible studies, faithful prayers, and earnest efforts to meet our spiritual needs. As one who was recently elected in 2010, I have been so blessed by Rev. Barnes’ friendship and pastoral discipleship the past year. His ministry continues to be a tremendous spiritual support and encouragement to me as I experience both the joys and challenges that come from serving in public office.

With this in mind, I am pleased to personally invite you to an important event during the legislative session. Capitol Commission Indiana is sponsoring Pastors’ Statehouse Day at the Indiana Statehouse on February 23, 2012. You will have the unique occasion to take your Gospel-centered mission to new heights as you meet and enjoy lunch with the legislators representing your area. This is an opportune time to develop relationships with your leaders and ask for ways you can specifically pray for them. You will also hear testimonials from Christian legislators, lobbyists, and staff, and discover more ways that you and your congregation can partner with this dynamic ministry in the heart of Indiana’s capitol.

I encourage you to take part in this momentous effort to bring prayer and biblical encouragement to your state’s leaders! For more information, please contact Rev. Matthew Barnes at indiana@capitolcom.org or 317.721.3443. He would appreciate sharing with you his vision for this ministry.

Sincerely,

Timothy Wesco

Indiana State Representative
