Capitol Commission puts a full-time pastor in the Capitol. Our goal is three-fold:
1). We evangelize leaders (Colossians 4:5-6). The Scriptures tell us to be wise in our interactions, being gracious, sensible and ready with the right answer.
2). We help them become established in the faith, discipling them (Matthew 28: 18-20). Jesus gives this command based on His authority in heaven and earth.
3). And we equip these leaders to live as salt and light in a very high profile environment.
In Kansas, we teach Bible studies in the Capitol most of the year. During the past year, we have studied leadership, with a focus on God's leaders. During the legislative sessions, we are blessed with up to 33 senators, representatives, and an occasional staff member or spouse in our weekly class. Between sessions, we host a group of administrators. We hand deliver printed Bible study notes to each office in the Capitol, including the Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General and neighboring agency offices. Nearly 500 officials and staff have the Word of God delivered to their offices.
Between legislative sessions, we are still in the Capitol most days, delivering our study notes, hosting a daily prayer team, and leading studies for administrators & staff. We send weekly study notes by email to State Senators and Representatives, as well as our US Senators and Congressmen in Washington. We meet with some of our legislators when they are in the Statehouse for committee meetings. We also travel the State, meeting one-on-one or in small groups.
We seek to reach out to pastors and churches in this focus of the great commission. Local churches can partner with us to bless the government leaders in their communities. Please pray about what role you can have in this mission and let me know how I can assist you in your outreach.
