NEWS UPDATES
April 1, 2010
We trust and pray that the month of March has been productive and prosperous for you and your family. Our greatest delight is to know our Lord has proven Himself faithful and gracious in His dealings with you.
I want to say thank you for your partnership in the cause for which Capitol Commission exists--Reaching the Capitol Community for Christ. Your participation to mutually impact the cause is the glue that holds our bond of partnership together.
One of our mutual partners in our cause has been deployed to Afghanistan. Chris writes:
"I had an interesting conversation tonight with a Lieutenant Colonel who is in his last week of a one year deployment. I ran into him right before our weekly Bible Study at Chapel. We got into a short discussion about our work here and the needs of the Afghan people. He and I agreed that the job in Afghanistan will not and cannot be finished in a year. In fact, the work that needs to be done in this country will not be completed during our life time. It’s a sobering thought, but it’s the truth. The Colonel then said something very boldly, “This country will never be fixed until the Afghan people come to know Jesus Christ. Their religion is holding them back from truly understanding real freedom.” He also said, ”I’m sorry if this offends you, but it’s just what I believe.” Of course, I told him he was talking to a Believer. He’s right, Jesus is the answer. True freedom comes from God Almighty and it’s available to everyone. As an American Soldier I am not allowed to proselytize to the Afghan people. However, through my words and actions I can demonstrate the unique kind of love and compassion that can only come to us through Jesus Christ. Just as God expected His early people to know Him through the world around them, we too are His instruments for showing others the true path to righteousness and salvation. All it takes is one new believer to light the fire of freedom in AFG and the whole country could be changed. History is full of men and women who did just that."
Just as Chris expressed his concern for the people of Afghanistan to come to know and witness the love of Jesus Christ, so is your partnership with Capitol Commission to reach those on the capitol complex here in Columbia. We are in the world, but not of it, and for this reason we proclaim Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.
We are truly blessed by your participation with us to impact our leaders and to witness the inexpressible work God is doing in our capitol.

We trust and pray your New Year has been productive and prosperous. Capitol Commission South Carolina cherishes your participation in the gospel with us as we seek to "bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the capitol community."
The 2nd regular session of the 118th South Carolina General Assembly is well underway. Many are jockeying to protect the interest of those whom they represent--legislators their constituents and lobbyists their clients. In a year when the state budget is lean and the needs of the state are extremely great the emotional volatility is all over the spectrum.
But no matter the budgetary crisis that exist in our state in the temporal realm, we, as believers have the eternal Savior who promises to supply ALL our needs according to His inexhaustible riches no matter the earthly turmoil facing His children in this society.
Please pray for us and uphold Capitol Commission as we are still experiencing "growing pains" during our expansion period. Prayer Request:
- Pray for our President, Jim Young, as he models faithfulness, leadership and servanthood.
- Pray for our State Directors throughout the United States as they co-labor to "bring the gospel to the capitol Community."
- Pray for the explosive power of the gospel to go forth with transformational authority.
I'm reminded of Daniel as he led an exemplary life among the capitol community--
"Then the commissioners and satraps began trying to find a ground of accusation against Daniel in regard to government affairs; but they could find no ground of accusation or evidence of corruption, inasmuch as he was faithful, and no negligence or corruption was to be found in him." Daniel 6:4
O that the Lord would raise up in the churches across America men like Daniel who purposed "not to defile himself" in the realm of government and its affairs. Can you conceive of a government in which there are "no grounds of accusations, or evidence of corruptions and no negligence" in its elected officials in governmental affairs?
Thank you for co-laboring in this mission field with Capitol Commission. Your partnership advances the cause of Christ and His Kingdom.
Thank you and Blessings,
Jeff Lingerfelt

As I approach the end of a year, I like to review my personal finances and consider whether I have given all that the Lord wanted me to give towards His work. Then, I pray about where to direct any remaining funds for His glory. It is exciting to be used by Him in this way!
If you are still reviewing your 2009 giving, would you please pray about an end-of-year contribution to the work of Capitol Commission in South Carolina? We are the only Bible teaching ministry for legislators in the state Capitol, and I believe that alone makes this work worth supporting.
Contributions postmarked by Thursday, December 31 will be credited to this year’s giving. You may donate securely online at www.capitolcom.org/Donate, or send a check or money order made out to Capitol Commission to:
