Sen. Rand Paul was in a batting cage when the shooting started. He heard fifty or sixty shots. Then members of Scalise's security detail began returning fire. Rand later told reporters, "I do believe that without the Capitol Hill police, it would have been a massacre."

We who believe in the sovereignty of our God also believe that without His intervention this event could have been much more devastating. Thank you Father!

Dr. Jim Denison, in his daily article, shared the following: “In times like these, we see our mortality in the light of immortality. We realize that these brief years on this tiny planet are the dash between the dates on our tombstone, a dot before the line, a moment before eternity. We understand that what matters most is not how long we live but how well we live. And we are forced to consider the truth of Scripture: "And it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgement" – Hebrews 9:27.

Those of us serving with Capitol Commission are thankful God has given us the opportunity to remind those who are serving in our government that the reality of our lives is that every day we are one day closer to eternity. And that fact can be good news if the certainty of one’s eternal destination is grounded in faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Thank you for those of you who financially and prayerfully support us in this very meaningful place of influence.

Unity

What struck me most about this picture that followed the shooting was the fact that when difficult things happen in one’s life, and especially when life itself has been threatened, political party doesn’t matter, there just may be a God who can or will intervene on my behalf. Thus, I have hope in prayer.

For many years now I seldom have missed a day praying for the leaders of my state and our nation. I have often prayed for their safety while they travel from their homes to their Capitol. But before this shooting I don’t remember ever praying for their protection from someone so filled with hate they desire to kill them. My prayers have changed. Would you please consider one of these prayer tools as a guide for praying for the leaders of your state and those serving in our nation’s Capitol? – www.pray1tim2.org/ and www.publicservantsprayer.org

This month the National ministry is experiencing a significant financial shortfall. Would you please consider a meaningful and generous gift to help us during these lean summer months? You can easily do so using the “Donate Tab” in the right column. God is actively changing hearts and we are grateful we have been called to participate with Him.

To God be the glory!

Jim Young, President
Capitol Commission
