May 2015 Update:
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:34-35
Jesus gives his followers a new command, it is to love each other as He has loved them. The starting point is knowing, experiencing God’s love through our great friend and teacher Jesus. What flows is a life in which we love like he loves, and a growing community that shares his likeness. Over the last couple months we are grateful to have seen the love of Jesus poured into our lives through those who strive to follow him. Our pray is that this community of love will grow and bear witnessed to our great and loving God who is always near us.
At the beginning of March we held our first partnership dinner in Philadelphia area at our local church. We had close to 100 people attend the event with legislators traveling from across the state to be part of this event. They shared powerfully about their deep love for the Lord, and the forging of a community at the Capitol that seeks to be united on the basis of their shared commitment to Jesus. In April our local church had its yearly mission's conference called COSMOS. This year approximately 60 missionaries from around the world gathered at Church of the Saviour (COS). At the initial Sunday service Ishbell and I were recognized as regional missionaries sent out from the church, and I opened the worship service in prayer. The week included time connecting with other missionaries, meeting with small groups and a Sunday school class to share about what God is doing at the Capitol.
Last week I had the opportunity to speak at TeenPact
for one of their morning sessions at the PA Capitol. TeenPact is an organization that trains young people (13-18 yrs. old) to be leaders who desire to impact the nation and world for Jesus. It was encouraging to share about the importance of pursuing Christlikeness in the political arena, and interact with them over this topic. It was a huge blessing to meet the Class Director: Cal Callen, and the State Coordinator: Deb Jones and her husband Dave.
An Opportunity to Connect:
As we seek to expand this idea of community through the state a phrase that Capitol Commission has used comes to mind. “The ministry desires to be the arm of the church that reaches into the Capitol.”
To pursue this I am looking for volunteers who would be interested in hosting an evening in which we pray for leaders from these specific legislative districts. In addition to praying, we would write notes of encouragement that I would personally deliver to their legislative offices at the Capitol. If this idea peaks your interest please contact me.
