I am honored to serve as the State Minister for South Dakota to help reach the capitol community for Christ. Our elected officials face unique challenges and pressures. It is our goal to come alongside them and uplift them in prayer, strengthen them with the word of God, and encourage them with a pastoral presence in the state capitol. Regardless of party affiliation, we seek to serve all the legislators and the entire capitol community.

I invite you to join us in praying for our state leaders (I Timothy 2:1-4) at www.pray1tim2.org, as we seek to make disciples in the capitol community. Pray also for the ministry as we step forward with this exciting opportunity.

“Jarvis Wipf and the Capitol Commission brought their ministry to our South Dakota Capitol this year and faithfully served the individual legislators and the body as a whole. Every day, Jarvis arrived early and stayed late. In doing so, he opened up lines of communication and established meaningful relationships with a number of us. Every Tuesday night, a number of legislators gathered for a time of Bible study, prayer, and worship. Jarvis also complimented other local ministries by attending their events. Truly, he has the heart of a servant, and the Capitol Commission’s ministry is well-served by Jarvis and they are serving South Dakota well. We truly appreciate all their efforts to serve all they come into contact with—both the churched and unchurched—as they seek to serve as a witness to the good news of great joy our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ brings to those who have a personal relationship with Him.”

I thank Jarvis for committing to serve those in the Capitol setting through his work with the Capitol Commission. He has worked hard to understand the process, build relationships with those in the Capitol, and make himself available to serve the spiritual needs of state leaders. While we often think of missionaries serving in far off lands, Jarvis’s work right here at home on the mission field to those working in the State Capitol is equally important. The Lord has blessed us with Jarvis and his work! Chris Nelson, Public Utilities Commissioner

“My experiences with Jarvis were very rewarding. I really appreciated the way he approached the teachings in the Bible. On Tuesday evening, the few times I was able to attend, Jarvis’ insight into the readings of the Bible were very helpful to me in understanding the teaching of Jesus. I loved the way Jarvis incorporated his thoughts with the thoughts of the people in the group. This was such an inspiration to me. I felt like I was present in the sight of Jesus as Jarvis walked us through each verse he had read. He was always prepared, and didn’t force his insights upon the group, but led the group into the teachings of the Bible as these lessons of God were believed in the eyes of the prophets. Jarvis was always on the floor of the Senate in the morning and just seeing him there gave me the inspiration I needed those days to just make it through that day. I really enjoyed him being there.”

“Jarvis was a permanent fixture in the state Capitol during the 2018 legislative session. He stood by at all times to observe and reach out to anyone needing prayer and support. In past sessions we have had a chaplaincy-type program, but I haven’t noticed before anyone sitting in committee hearings in an attitude of unobtrusive prayer as I witnessed Jarvis doing. I, and 10-12 other legislators, attended his weekly study on the gospel of John and were fed and encouraged by his teaching. I felt he went over and above caution to honor the time constraints we all worked under, and was never anything but helpful. He used discretion in when to step up and when to pray silently. We as a body are blessed to have him in our midst. I know God is using him to further the Kingdom, and he is a blessing to us all. We love Jarvis and respect his calling to serve!”

“I am writing on behalf of Jarvis Wipf of Capitol Commission, a ministry devoted to serving those who work in and through the State Capitol. I have watched Jarvis serve the members of the South Dakota Legislature as well as those who work full-time in the State Capitol. He does an excellent job of connecting with people on a deeper level to have a very encouraging and supportive relationship. If you follow politics at all you will probably realize the challenges that go along with being away from family and business during the legislative session. Combine that with the personal demands and losses that are a normal part of life and you have many opportunities for pastoral care, and that is where Jarvis shines. Jarvis has also conducted a weekly Bible Study for Legislators. Through that study I have observed his compassion, sincerity and ability to teach. He has a thorough grasp of the Scriptures and knows how to apply them. I hope you will support this ministry.”

In one short year Jarvis Wipf has become an important part of the legislative process at the South Dakota state capital during session. He is an ever present source of encouragement and counsel. This past session he was especially important to me during a time of loss with my sisters passing in the middle of the session. He filled the need that no one else was able to fill at the capital at that moment. I certainly hope and pray that he will be available to all legislators and myself in the upcoming session.

“The ministry of the Capitol Commission is a blessing to South Dakota legislators and many others that work in the Capitol. Jarvis Wipf, the Capitol Commission minister for South Dakota, started his first year by traveling the state before the legislative session meeting with legislators to build relationships. During the legislative session, Jarvis continued to build relationships, teach an evening Bible study for legislators, and be available during challenging times of conflict and illness. It is my prayer that this new ministry in South Dakota continues to touch the lives of those who govern as their decisions influence the lives of all South Dakotans.”
