Put on the gospel Armor, Each piece put on with prayer...
Paul begins his description of our spiritual battle with the exhortation, “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might”. Paul ends by describing that alone which will make us strong in the Lord’s might – prayer. Prayer is not an additional final piece of armor in Paul’s illustration. Rather, as the old hymn above tells us, prayer is something we must do in connection with our use of each piece of the armor of God and our engagement in the conflict with the world, the flesh, and the devil. Paul spends more time here describing prayer than he does with any piece of armor. It is only through prayer that we become strong in the Lord and the strength of His might.
This is the topic of this week's Bible study, "Pray at All Times", in the West Virginia capitol. Our leaders have certainly needed to pray and be prayed for during what has turned out to be a quite contentious regular session. Our studies on the Christian's warfare have certainly seemed appropriate with all that has taken place.
This was the final week of the regular session and the final Bible study in our series. It is our prayer that our studies and ministry at the statehouse have been an encouragement during these challenging weeks.
Please continue to pray for our leaders as the session winds down to its conclusion at Midnight on Saturday.
