A Brief Overview of the National Ministry

Capitol Commission is seeking to place a full-time pastor (State Minister) in each of our 50 state capitols and in Washington, DC with the goal of reaching and discipling these government leaders for Christ. There are currently twenty-three states served by State Ministers. We have a three-fold strategy: Prayer, Presence and Proclamation. As one of those full-time ministers serving in Arkansas, let me update you on how I've been able to share the good news of Christ in our capitol and throughout the state in 2016.

Prayer

While I hold weekly prayer group meetings for the leaders and staff at the Congressional and State levels, and hope to add more prayer groups as the Lord frees us to do so, I am constantly seeking to increase prayer support via churches throughout Arkansas and beyond.

I would encourage you to join thousands of others who are praying daily for our legislators through our a website-based ministry, www.pray1tim.org. It will enable you to pray faithfully for your state and national officials in obedience to the Word of God. Our prayer base is growing and the legislators are deeply grateful for the prayers of God’s people. Visit our website, www.capitolcom.org, to learn more.

Presence

I have a regular ministry presence and visitation at the Arkansas  State Capitol, and an increasing presence around the state. I have met so many new folks this year, and it has been wonderful. Almost everyone I have had the privilege of meeting has expressed a sincere appreciation for what we do, and has expressed a desire to partner with us in practical ways.

Proclamation

While I have been invited to speak in many different venues. The mainstay of proclamation takes place either in Arkansas churches or at my weekly Bible studies. The weekly groups that I lead allow me regular opportunities to minister God grace through the clear teaching and application of God’s Word. God always seems to toss in the unexpected ministry opportunities as well, this keeps me on my toes, and ever thankful to be a part of what God is doing, also it reminds me of Ephesians 2:10, which reminds believers that we are God's workmanship, created for good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish. We know that when God calls us to do anything, we are to do so in His Name, and according to His great power and His strength, which is already at work in us who believe, ultimately we are called to labor for God's glory, and for the good of those we serve. We are so blessed to do what we do!

What’s the plan for the 2017 legislative session?

Lord willing, I plan to add a weekly legislative dinner for the length of the legislative session. The benefit of these dinners is that it allows us to honor God and our legislators by feeding them physically, but even more importantly it allows us an opportunity to feed them spiritually. These legislative sessions can be very, very stressful, especially as time goes on, several legislators have commented that it is easy for them to get distracted, or develop a wrong attitude, or forget that God is all important while they are away from home. They really appreciate the opportunity we provide to draw near to God through prayer and time in His Word, especially when they need it most.

My plan during the upcoming session, beginning January 9, is to invite all our legislators to a welcome dinner, then share how we can bless and serve them during the upcoming session. Then each week during the legislative session we plan to gather for a time of excellent biblical teaching on the Passion Week, while enjoying some rich fellowship, and prayer over a hot meal.

We also plan to hold "Capitol Commission Pastors and Partners Days" at the Capitol. It is a time for us to pray for our leaders and meet with them. If you would like to participate in these please let me know.

PS: We can still use help covering costs during the legislative session. We are prayerfully seeking $3,500 in year end support.

PSS: The blessings of ministering to our leaders can be huge! Those who serve our country in Washington DC often get their start at the state level. Governor, and now Vice President-elect, Mike Pence is a great example! His spiritual advisor has been our State Minister in Indiana!

Thank you so much for your prayer, and care, and for your partnership in this ministry of Christ to our capitol communities.
