Like millions of Americans, I continue to ache and pray for the families affected by last week’s elementary school shooting in Connecticut. This tragedy serves as yet another stark reminder that we all live in a fallen world corrupted by sin, in this case demonstrated by the shooter and the incomprehensible pain his actions caused.
Is there hope for a society like ours? Yes! Mankind's root problems are spiritual, and so the ultimate solution is spiritual also. This is the hope that we celebrate at Christmas. God sent his son Jesus into this world to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), including us. He is still graciously rescuing people one-by-one, and as they turn to Him they shine his light to those around them. I pray that we will soon see another great revival in our country, with millions saved in a short time. Either way, one day, our great Lord will someday put an end to all violence and suffering, judge the world in righteousness and mercy (Romans 2:6-11), and bless His people with a glorious future (Romans 8:18). We have a lot to look forward to!
As you pray about what ministries to support, I urge you to especially stand behind those who are proclaiming the Good News of Jesus and the Word of God. This alone can change hearts and address our world's deepest needs.
Finally, my family and I would like to wish you and yours a very blessed Christmas, full of joy and meaning as you reflect on what God did by sending his son Jesus to illuminate our lives and our world! Valerie and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage this June 18. We are so thankful for our children, Hannah (just turned 17) and Lucas (just turned 15). We know we have much to be thankful for. We would love to hear from you anytime!
