November 26, 2013
Thanksgiving is an excellent time to count our blessings.
Above all, we are so blessed to be able to know God through Jesus Christ and for the ongoing privilege of serving Him (Ephesians 1:3-6)
Here are a few specifics that I am also thanking God for this month:
Ministry Partners - This month marks five years for me serving in the State Capitol in Sacramento. I rely entirely on contributions specifically to Capitol Commission in California to fund this work, so I am grateful to everyone who has partnered with us in this way.
Capitol Commission National Gathering - All of us who serve in 22 state capitols plus our national board members and main office staff and many spouses met together at the Glen Eyrie Conference Center in Colorado Springs. I thank God for these dear friends. It was a refreshing week of rejoicing in what the Lord is doing in and through us for his glory. (In the picture below, Valerie and I are front and center, 6th and 7th from the left.)
Washington Trip - I participated in an international gathering of pastors to government leaders held in Washington, D.C.. I was privileged to speak to the group on The Message of the Cross (click the title to read it in print.) I also met privately with a few members of U.S. Congress who were formerly California state legislators in Sacramento. Two of them were part of our Legislators' Bible Study group in Sacramento and it was a joy to hear how they are still seeking the Lord. (Pictured below are my friends Matthew Barnes of Capitol Commission Indiana and David Andersen of Capitol Commission Virginia with me at the U.S. Capitol.)
Birthdays – My children Hannah and Lucas both have a November 9th birthday (no, Valerie and I didn't plan it that way.) This year, Hannah turned 18 and Lucas turned 16, two big milestones. I am grateful for how they have grown and love the Lord. Hannah laughs that it is now suddenly legal for her to buy cigarettes, get a tattoo, join the Army, gamble, buy spray paint, vote, leave our family, ... and do almost anything except drink alcohol … but fortunately she is making very good choices. Lucas just finished JV Football season and is enjoying his first week in 11 months with no practice or pain, and is planning to get his driver's license in December.
Psalm 105:1-2 "Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!"
