THE GREATNESS OF GOD PROCLAIMED AT THE CAPITOL
As we approach the end of another year (my seventh) serving God in the California State Capitol, I rejoice as I reflect on all the Lord has done.
One of many highlights this year was the 54th Annual California Prayer Breakfast back on May 26.
I was honored to serve on the planning team for this big event, which was chaired by Senator Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield), who has publicly endorsed our ministry. About five-hundred people attended, including legislators, statewide leaders, staff, lobbyists, and state workers, ... many who would not even describe themselves as followers of Jesus.
Former legislator Bill Leonard, keynote Francis Chan, Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D, Los Angeles), Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R, Brea), Assembly Republican Leader Kristin Olsen (R, Modesto), CA National Guard Chaplain Lt Colonel Wesley Clare.
A legislator praise band was a first at this year's breakfast. It included Assemblymember Chad Mayes (R, Rancho Mirage), Assemblymember David Chiu (D, San Francisco), Assemblymember Kristin Olsen (R, Modesto).
The keynote speaker at this year's event, Francis Chan, proclaimed a bold message about the greatness and sovereignty of God and our need to submit to him, which is an especially important reminder for those who serve in leadership positions. I was glad that the name of Jesus and the Word of God were lifted high.
Assemblymember Ken Cooley (D, Rancho Cordova), Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas (D, Los Angeles), Francis Chan.
You can view a 2015 Prayer Breakfast seven-minute overview video here.
You can listen to audio of Francis Chan’s entire message here. (The volume is low since I recorded it on my personal cell phone from where I was sitting.)
Thankful for good friends who manned our info table, Mary-Lee Sondergard, Kristine Cazadd (Board of Equalization), Dana Holmes (Board of Equalization).
The breakfast only lasted a couple of hours or so, but it opened doors for me to have many further conversations about the Lord with lawmakers, staff, and lobbyists throughout the rest of this year.
Let's continue to reach out to all our leaders and urge them, regardless of their lofty positions in the eyes of men, to look up to the only one who is worthy of all our praise!
Psalm 148:11-13 “Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth … let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted, his majesty is above earth and heaven.”
