As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, we all have so much to be thankful for, don’t we?
In recent weeks, I have been blessed to teach staff and lobbyists and others inside the California State Capitol about "The Greatness of Gratitude" based on Colossians 3:15-17.
This has been an encouraging topic for me personally, as I have spent more time than usual thinking about how God is at work in great ways even when we face difficulties and challenges.
In my family, we have been processing the recent passing of my wife’s big sister, Krystal, following her courageous four-year battle with cancer. Even in the midst of this painful loss, there has been much to be thankful for. I was honored on Friday to officiate Krystal’s memorial service and share about how the Lord worked through her sickness to wonderfully open her heart to Him and prepare her for eternity with Him.
In Sacramento, the wave of sexual harassment scandals has swept over the Capitol in a dramatic way. For weeks there have been almost daily news reports related to one government leader after another who is accused of sexual harassment or assault or some other impropriety or criminal offense. In the midst of this chaos and pain, I have had a number of legislators and staff and lobbyists connect with me for private prayer or biblical counsel, and I even had the opportunity recently to lead one legislator in a prayer of salvation. My prayer is that God will use these difficult circumstances to bring many more to Him and improve the ungodly culture of the Capitol.
I am very thankful for you who partner with us in giving and prayer to enable us to continue to bring the Good News of Jesus and the Word of God into the halls of government, where it is so desperately needed! Please contact me anytime if you'd like a personal end-of-year update.
Psalm 138:4 “All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O LORD, when they have heard the words of Your mouth."
The beach was Valerie's sister Krystal's favorite place, so on the day after her memorial service
my family and I walked on the sand to thank God for her.
