    March 9, 2018

As I mentioned in a printed letter I sent out to those on my U.S. Mail list, 2018 has turned out to be an unusual year to serve as a Missionary/Pastor to the California State Capitol, where much of the talk is about how to respond to the continually growing list of sexual harassment allegations.

As many as 14 of our 120 State Legislators are now under investigation for alleged sexual harassment or assault against other legislators or staff or lobbyists or others, and that list may grow. These are men and women from both houses of the legislature and both parties. Three have resigned, more are being called upon to do the same, and some others who are accused will not be running for office again this fall.

This is a painful time for everyone in the Capitol community, where the alleged victims and offenders are known by many and with lifelong careers on the line.

A former state legislator sent me a text back in December as this situation was just ramping up saying, "Frank you are going to have your hands full next year ministering. It should be exciting to see how Christ is going to use all these developments to His honor and glory.  You are on the point of the spear of what He is going to do. I hope you're keeping a journal. God bless you."

I don't know about being on the point of the spear, but I do have a unique view of the situation since I have a pastoral connection to a number of those involved.

And so, I began this year by teaching a Bible Study for many legislators, staff, and lobbyists entitled "How God Responds to Sexual Harassment," showing that God can bring good even out of this pain. Click the link if you'd like to read it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

With all this going on, I hope you will join me in praying that 2018 will continue to be a year of spiritual breakthroughs in our Capitol, with more leaders looking to the Lord and seeking to follow Him.

Our weekly Bible Studies for legislators, staff and lobbyists are going well. I began the year by handing out an invite letter to every Senator and Assembly Member that included endorsements from 44 current or former legislators from both parties. This year I’ve had more than one lawmaker ask me, “Why am I not on that list? Add my name to it!” Considering this is an unashamed, in-depth, Christ-centered, expository Bible study inside a very secular statehouse, this is a step of faith for them and an encouraging indication of how God is at work.
