Maryland News Update Feed

September 3, 2014

The fall will be a busy time for those in Maryland’s political community. All state-wide offices will be on the ballot in the November 4th election and the weeks leading up to that day will be understandably hectic. Please keep your leaders in prayer through these days and for Capitol Commission as we seek to serve them spiritually while challenging churches to act biblically towards government officials.

As you pray, please remember these requests:

  • Many involved in Maryland politics were shocked last week to hear of the sudden passing of Cookie Harris, wife of U.S. Congressman Andy Harris. She was a leader in the pro-life cause in Maryland and was well-loved by those who knew her. Pray that the Lord will have his purposes, that hearts will be drawn to him as her family and friends think about their own mortality.
  • Pray for the preparations we are making for the Election Eve Prayer Walk in front of the capitol building in Annapolis on Monday, November 3rd from 7:00-8:30 p.m. This is an opportunity for an encouraging testimony to our state as we gather to seek the Lord in close proximity to the capitol, governor’s mansion and General Assembly office buildings.
  • The campaign season is a time of great pressure as well as opportunities for healthy or harmful actions and words by candidates. Pray for ethical, constructive decisions to be made by those running for office in the next few weeks.
  • Our Bible studies will continue to be sent to legislators and staff until the end of the year. Pray for these to be read and that they will be a source of challenge and hope.

We do not take your prayers for granted! Thanks so much for reading our updates and for lifting us up when the Lord brings us to your mind.
