Today, “love” takes center stage as many celebrate Valentine’s Day. As Christians, let us be reminded what love really is, and celebrate the greatest love of all - God’s love toward us.
Love is commitment in action. God demonstrated His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
The Bible tells us (1Corinthians 13) important qualities of love as demonstrated in Christ. Love is patient and kind. It is not envious, nor is it boastful, prideful, rude or selfish. It is not easily angered, and it rejoices never in evil but rather in truth.
This love is the essence of God that we are called to emulate. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. The second greatest is to love one another as ourselves.
The depths of God's love for us is illustrated in what is probably the best-known Bible verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Let us love, as God has first loved us. (1John 4:19)
Happy Valentine’s Day!
To God be the glory!
