Capitol Commission PA: 5/21/2014 Update
Luke 11:13 - If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Today was our first staff Bible study. We had a nice gathering of various people throughout the Capitol with half the people having never met one another before that moment. We shared prayer requests, prayed for one another, and then spent the next forty minutes studying the Scriptures. We initially talked about the Bible. On one hand the Christian community holds the Bible in high regard, but practically we fall into the pattern of treating the Bible as a relic – an artifact from the past. We see it as a thing worshipped and revered for what it represents, but not for what it has to say from its own words. After this we took a quick overview of the gospel of Luke. We saw that the Holy Spirit was emphasized in Luke-Acts. From beginning to end, this two volume work is one story showing that the work of Jesus and the emerging church is the result of the power of the Holy Spirit.
On Thursday June 5, 2014 @ 1PM I will be part of a panel discussion at the God in our Government conference. The location of this gathering is the Word of Grace Ministries, 3814 N. Progress Ave, Harrisburg, PA. Special guests include: Richard Saccone, PH.D, PA House of Representatives and Author, Peter Smith, Pastor of Hope Valley Community Church and founder of Upper Perk Prayer Evangelism Network. Other Special guest which I will be joining on the panel are: PA Senator John Eichelberger, Judge Paula Patrick, and Pastor Scot Roth. Please consider joining us at this event. Also please pray for our interactions with one another, that this time would be productive and be beneficial to the work of our Lord Jesus.
I had received an email from my mom earlier this week. She had mentioned driving a friend to a community meeting, and while there she found out that a state representative was speaking at this event. Afterwards she shared with this representative about the ministry and the Bible study that meets at the Capitol. In the words of a friend, GO MOM!
I also attended a Pastor’s Breakfast this morning in which we heard from the author of a book titled “Mission Drift.” He discussed the dangers that Christian ministries face in drifting from the essential nature of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In my mind, I believe that an intentional discipling model is a help in keeping this danger in check. Much to consider…
May God’s Blessing Dwell on You Richly,
