“…It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.”
So goes the quote from Winston Churchill before the British Parliament in 1947. It is a reminder of the weaknesses and failures of our own form of government, indeed of all human governments through the ages.
However God made a promise to David of a leader who would come who would reign with perfect justice and righteousness. Of course we know this promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The failure of governments, whether the kings of Israel, empires and nations, even our own should simply make us yearn for the coming of the True King. It should also remind us not to place too much trust in the governments of this world.
This is the theme of this week’s Bible study at the West Virginia capitol. Our lesson, “God Keeps His Promises” looks at the covenant promise God made to David and how He kept that promise through Christ. It is a great message for those so caught up in the machinations of government in the statehouse.
- Pray that many will take part in this promise through repentance and faith in Christ.
- Pray that many will seek to learn and follow the attitudes actions of this Kingdom.
- Pray that many will join us in telling others that the true King against whom they have rebelled is willing to grant them forgiveness and reconciliation through Christ.
