March 10, 2016
We are in the final week of the 2016 regular session. These last days are particularly challenging for our leaders. There are still major issues with which to deal. There are real struggles to balance our budget. Days are long. Floor sessions are extended. Folks are tired. And, of course, politics gives something of a combative atmosphere to everything that takes place.
How can a Christian function in such an environment? Jesus Himself gives the answer in His final "I Am" statement in the Gospel of John: “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Abiding with Christ. Spending time with Him. Reading and studying His Word. Spending time in prayer. Jesus is the source of life and strength for a believer to bear fruit in the challenging environment of the statehouse. This is the subject of our final Bible study of the regular session, "I am the Vine".
The goal of our ministry in the capitol is to help our leaders abide in Christ during the difficult days of the session through our Bible studies and one on one ministry. Please continue to pray during this final week.
- Pray that some who do not follow Christ will find the life that only comes through faith in Him.
- Pray that believers may indeed seek to abide in Him during these challenging times.
