The Regular Legislative Session is Underway

The 60 day regular session is now underway at the state capitol. For our 14th year God has given us an open door to provide Bible studies and ministry to the legislators, elected officials, lobbyists and staff who serve in the West Virginia statehouse.

Our series of studies during the session will be taken from Romans chapter 8. In this chapter we find some of the most encouraging words for all those who seek to follow Jesus Christ:

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (8:1)

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (8:28)

If God is for us, who is against us? (8:31)

But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (8:37-39)

Paul’s letter to the Romans is one of the most important books of the Bible for us to know and understand. Chapter 8 is the high point of this chapter and we will consider it’s wonderful promises and how it fits in with the rest of Paul's letter. Pray that these studies might help provide assurance and peace for our leaders during the difficult days of the session.

The building and maintenance of West Virginia’s roads has been a BIG issue in recent legislative sessions. Such infrastructure is considered vital to our economy and to the well-being of our citizens. Determining how to fund the work on our roads has been the source of much discussion and controversy.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul lays out for us the “roads” – the “infrastructure” of the Christian faith. It is his systematic presentation of the essential truths of the gospel. This is the focus of this week's introductory study.

The notes for the studies will be distributed throughout the capitol each week. Pray for the impact of our studies and for opportunities to minister as we spend time in outreach around the statehouse.
