When We Don't Know How to Pray

There are always great challenges during the regular legislative session. This has been particularly true over the last several years as leaders have had to deal with difficult budgets. This year there are obviously the issues of education and PEIA. In the middle of such difficult times, it may often be difficult to even know how to pray. There have been several times during the years of our ministry in the capitol I have shared with leaders, “I am not even sure how to best pray for you”.

The Bible tells us that the life of one who is following Christ can be one of joy, peace, and assurance. So how do you experience joy, peace, and assurance in the middle so such challenging times? This is what Paul’s message in Romans chapter 8 is all about. Because we have been made right with God through faith in Christ and His work, the believer can experience joy, peace, and assurance even in the most difficult of times because of the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in their life. One of those works is that the Spirit helps believers to pray, even when we do not know how.

This is the subject of this week's Bible studies in the West Virginia state capitol.

Our leaders are in the middle of another challenging and difficult session.

    • Pray that the Holy Spirit will use these challenges to draw leaders to the Lord.
    • Pray that these challenges will demonstrate their weakness and drive them to the Lord in dependence and prayer.
    • Pray that our studies and our ministry may be an encouragement to our leaders as they serve.
